Camps for Children with Kidney Disease - AKF offers grants to help needy children with kidney disease attend camp. Grants are also offered for day camp, computer camp, family camp and other enrichment programs. Camp Location: Apache Tribe Ceremonial Grounds, Ft. Cobb. For youth ages 10-18, with and without disabilities. A two-day camping experience that includes outdoor activities, arts and crafts, cultural preservation focus, language classes and instruction in health and preventing substance abuse. Children erect a tee-pee and put up a sweat lodge.

Multiple camps throughout the summer call for schedules. Camp Aldersgate is the only place to really get to know the great outdoors with the latest facilities and as few barriers as possible. They offer camps for children and youth who have conditions such as cancer, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, diabetes, arthritis, asthma, epilepsy, kidney disorders, autism, Down's syndrome, and mental retardation. Hundreds of campers come each year from across Arkansas and from surrounding states to enjoy an experience of a lifetime.

June 1 - August 14, (nine different camp weeks) - A Christian camp for children, teens and adults with medical, physical or developmental disabilities. Call or check web site for schedules. July 9 - 13, 2008 - for children and youth ages 10-18 with debilitating diseases. This is the only camp available for heart, sickle-cell and cystic fibrosis children. Held at Cross Point Camp, Lake Texoma. The camp provides a full range of camping activities in which children can participate to the extent they are able. Summer 2008 - June 29 - July 28, 2008 for leadership camp for 9th through 12th grade and July 20 - August 2, 2008 for leadership camp for 5th through 8th grade. National Leadership and Literacy Camp - for children and youth who are deaf or hard of hearing, children of deaf adults and siblings fluent in ASL. June 9 through July 11, 2008 - Camp DaKaNi Day Camps - There are four day camps each one week long, open to all boys and girls pre-kindergarten through 6th grade. Camps provide a variety of outdoor activities, cookouts, arts and crafts, hiking on the newly created Braille Trail and other age-appropriate activities such as canoeing. Camp ClapHans summer day camp will be from May 27 to May 30, 2008. This camp starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Children will receive lunch and snacks. It is open to children in 2nd through 6th grade and is designed to incorporate therapeutic approaches to the activities by the speech, occupational and physical therapy departments. Camps are held monthly, call for dates - Camp Benedictine: located in Shawnee, OK. The Oklahoma Benedictine Integrated Overnight Camps accept persons with or without disabilities, ages 8-80. Three-day camps held monthly provide an opportunity for individuals with developmental delays to engage in recreational, educational and pre-vocational activities along with other community members. Offered are swimming, basketball, aerobics, volleyball, bingo, drama, arts and crafts, cultural activities and concept building activities. June 17-21, 2008 - Oklahoma Youth Leadership Forum. Applications are available by calling the council office. This camp provides high school students with disabilities training in advocacy and leadership, as well as exposure to post-secondary education options and community living supports. Students must be in 10th grade or beyond and have some high school remaining.

August 8th through 11th, 2008 - Oklahomans without Limits (OWL) is a camping experience for children ages 8 to 18 who are blind or visually impaired. This year's camp will be held at Central Oklahoma Christian Camp and Conference Center located in Guthrie, Oklahoma. There is no fee for individuals who participate in OWL camp.
Each camper will be teamed up with peer counselors who will provide support, encouragement and sighted assistance for camp activities. Peer counselors will be provided by Woodland Hills Baptist Church of Newcastle, Oklahoma. Transportation to and from camp will be provided by Oklahoma League for the Blind. Students, however, must have transportation to the league's office.
Camp activities are designed to assist camp participants improve their self-esteem, have positive social interaction with non-disabled peers and experience a wide array of indoor and outdoor activities in an accessible environment. Direct Link: www.olb.org/show_programs.php?id=27.

June 2-29, 2008- Location: OSB Campus in Muskogee -2008 Summer Enrichment Program: Oklahoma Kids: A Kaleidoscope. For 1st - 12th grade students who are blind or visually impaired. The summer program is for children and youth who do not regularly attend the School for the Blind. The program offers specialized skills instruction, remediation, reinforcement in academic skills, training in use of assistive technology for the blind, recreation and social skills development. Children are transported home each weekend of the four week session.

Summer Day Camps for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children - children ages 7-13 may attend, and youth ages 14-15 can apply for counselor-in-training positions. A deaf education instructor leads camps, with volunteers assisting. Activities include speakers and hands-on activities organized around a central theme that is different each year. Sign language and voice communications are used.
Independent Living Camp - for deaf and hard of hearing teens ages 14 and up. The camp meets at TSHA and is free. Activities focus on developing independent living skills such as cooking, budgeting, making college arrangements, using transportation, etc. Field trips and fun activities are included.
Deaf Teen Club - for youth of middle-school age and up. The Club meets the third Friday of each month, 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and gives deaf and hard of hearing teens a chance to network, connect with peers, learn independent living concepts and have fun.
December Holiday Party - for children and youth who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech-impaired; children of deaf adults; siblings and families. Activities include free holiday stockings, games, crafts, prizes, food and a signing Santa.
