Northeast Oklahoma Job and Resource Fair hoping to pair disabled/nondisabled job seekers with area employers

TULSA, Okla.—In recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, several agencies and resource groups have joined together to conduct the first Northeast Oklahoma Job and Resource Fair. The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Goodwill Industries of Tulsa, 2800 Southwest Boulevard in Tulsa.

Robert Senn, an Oklahoma Employment Security Commission Workforce Specialist, who is chairman of the group spearheading the event, said, “We’re very excited about this job and resource fair. This is a major event, and it will open many doors for people with and without disabilities.”

Carolyn Dubie, a disability program navigator with Workforce Oklahoma said, “We’re not just trying to help people with disabilities only find work. We’re trying to help everybody.”

Marlene Harris, a program field representative with the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, agreed: “It’s our goal to help get Oklahomans back to work. You don’t have to have a disability to come. You don’t even have to be out of work.”

Several employers from various industries will be on hand for the job and resource event.
Von Williams of Goodwill Industries said, “We’re looking to have big companies like Home Depot, Tulsa County Health Department, Cherokee Casino, Shaw Tulsa Fabricators, Inc. and many others.”

The Northeast Oklahoma Disability Taskforce, which is sponsoring the fair is the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, Workforce Oklahoma, Goodwill Industries of Tulsa, TSHA, Inc., Ability Resources, the Disability Navigator Program, the Internal Revenue Service, the City Action Project of Tulsa County, the Mental Health Association of Tulsa, the Oklahoma Council of the Blind, United Way’s Family and Children Services, and Langston University.
