Transcript of Food, Fishing And A Horse Named Ghost
Craig Day, anchor: "The students from the Oklahoma School for the Blind had an awesome day today. They got to spend it on a real ranch with real horses. As Rick Wells shows us the students and the volunteer helpers got an experience they'll probably never forget."
Little boy: "Horsey."
Volunteer off camera: "Yeah, that's a horsey you're riding on."
Little boy: "Yeee Haw"
Volunteer off camera: "Yee Haw, that's right."
Rick Wells (RW): "Getting a chance for a ride on Ghost. William is one of 40 elementary kids from the Oklahoma School for the Blind. He and about 80 volunteers are here at the Barefoot Ranch in Haskell for Horse Day which is hosted by the ranch and the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association."
Male Volunteer: "Over here on the right hand that a sadle bag. When you go riding the horse, you can carry food for the horse and yourself. Okay?"
RW: "Andrew and the other kids get to experience grooming, leading and riding. For many, it's their first experience with horses.
"The inspiration behind this day at the ranch is Don LaPorte who lost his sight about 15 years ago, but still rides regularly."
Don LaPorte (DL): "It gives me a little freedom is what the horses have done for me."
RW: "He says he hopes the experience will give the kids an idea of other things they can do in life and, of course, there were other things they could do today."
Female volunteer: "Do you want a hot dog or hamburger?"
Boy: "Hot Dog."
Female volunteer: "Hot Dog."
RW: "Lunch was a big hit. So was fishing. Zebco provided some gear and it was getting used. Serenity caught this brute. Said she wanted to hold it "
Female with Serenity: "Gentle, gentle."
Man off camera: "That's your second fish. The first one was a small one, this thing is huge."
RW: Food and fishing. But, mostly this day was about giving the kids a great experience, like a first ride on a big white horse named Ghost.
Little boy: "Yeee Haw"
DL: "Yeah, it's an awesome day."
RW: "Rick Wells, News on 6."
CD: "Well Today's Horse Day was so successful, they are already talking about doing it again next year."
