Drug & Alcohol Rehab in Rochdale

Many people struggling with addiction feel like they’re completely alone. But that’s very rarely true. If you have a good support network around you, made up of friends, family or even colleagues, you’ll already be in a good position from an emotional perspective.

But even if you don’t have access to that kind of circle, don’t be too worried. Over the course of this process, if you get in touch with OK Rehab or any other addiction organisation, you won’t just have access to support from friends and family. At OK Rehab, we’re not just experts on a professional level, but a personal one too.

We’ve been through it ourselves and we want to help other people to a better life, where their addiction is fully managed. We can help you gain access to all the right resources and organisations, to ensure that this happens.

But before you start that process, it’s also important that you have a full understanding of what you’re getting into. Here, we have more information about drug and alcohol rehab in Rochdale, in addition to general information about the process that can be applied countrywide.

Taking the first step towards recovery

Recovering from addiction may seem like a huge, daunting challenge, particularly as the disorder often has deep and complex roots. This is especially true considering that even a thorough recovery process only manages addiction; it doesn’t cure it.

But even doing this research, and as a result, admitting even to yourself that you need help, is an incredibly important first step. Denial and fear are often huge barriers to recovery: once you’re over those, things become much easier.

Addiction works on both a physical and mental level. Because of this, as well as the variety of addictive substances and behaviours and the different support available at home to some people, almost every case of addiction is unique.

If you get in touch with us at the number below, we’ll ask you a series of questions to establish your specific circumstances. We’ll need to establish what you’re addicted to, how long your addiction has lasted for, how severe it seems to be, what kind of support you have around you and what your previous experience with recovery is.

When we have a better idea of all that, we’ll then be able to recommend treatments and services better suited to you.

    Residential vs outpatient recovery

Before we start talking about the various kinds of treatment available, let’s first talk about one of the most important distinctions: the difference between inpatient and outpatient treatment.

On a surface level, the difference is pretty simple. Inpatient treatment is completed within a residential facility, whilst outpatient treatment is completed at home.

There’s actually quite a bit of crossover in terms of what you go through in both: the main difference is the environment that you’re healing in. For example, you’ll likely go through some kind of therapy in both inpatient and outpatient treatment, but in the former, it will be within a completely different daily context, with a schedule of treatments, in a fully immersive space. Outpatient treatment is generally less intense, meaning it’s more suited to those with less severe addictions. On the other side, residential rehab is usually designed for those with a moderate to severe dependency.

    What treatment is available?

As we said previously, there isn’t really a cure for addiction. The point of the treatments within the recovery process is to help you deal with your addiction better in the long term, to the point where it’s completely under control. This is done in several ways, the first being mental health treatment.

Therapy and counselling are often vital first steps in the process. First of all, going purely from a combination of statistics and our own experience, many addictions are caused by past trauma. As a result, in such scenarios, finally confronting those traumas will often be the best way to move forward.

Other kinds of therapy also offer different benefits. For example, art therapy can allow you to express your feelings in a creative way. Group therapy has a similar effect to a support group, in the way that you can recover with other people who are suffering in many of the same ways you are.

By the way, as a sidenote from our discussion about therapy, support groups are another highly effective feature of both inpatient and outpatient treatment. Motivational interviewing (which is a form of counselling) is a fairly unique one. Through a series of questions, you’ll be encouraged to re-examine your behaviour and make permanent

Many residential rehab facilities also offer workshops, so you can learn techniques and strategies to live a healthier life even after your initial treatment ends. Common subjects of such workshops are addiction (of course), health and nutrition.

On the physical side of things, another staple treatment is detoxing. This nearly always takes place as the very first step of treatment, where your body will be cleansed of any addictive substances still there when you start. On a technical level, your intake of such substances will slowly be reduced and will be replaced with prescribed medication.

Due to the severity of some withdrawal symptoms, in addition to a low chance of success, we don’t recommend that you try to detox without professional support in place.

Now that we’ve established the differences between inpatient and outpatient treatment, you might have a better idea of what kind of treatment you need. But whichever one is for you, there’s plenty available in Rochdale. In addition to several residential facilities, there’s also lots of access to both physical and mental health treatment.

Before you to any specific place, it is of course very important to do full research. Find out if they have a website (they most likely will) and if they do have one, look at every part of it. If you have any remaining questions after that, you’ll likely be able to call them and ask.

Don’t just choose the first one you come across: take our advice on board, whilst comparing and contrasting on your own.

    How to prepare for recovery

Once you’ve decided on a particular organisation or facility, there are also a few other things you can do to prepare before you go. First of all, you should find out if there’s anything you are recommended to take with you and if there’s anything you’re not.

It can vary quite a bit from place to place on both sides, but speaking generally, we’d advise that you pack:

    • Clean clothes
    • Any toiletries you need
    • A notebook (and a pen or pencil along with it)
    • Documents such as ID
    • Names and numbers of anyone you’d like to contact while you’re away
    • A small amount of money, mainly for things like vending machines (you won’t need lots)

On the other hand, items that often make the banned list are nail polish (or anything else that can be misused), any toiletries that could contain alcohol, outside food and drink and of course, drugs and alcohol.

If you’d like to find out more about drug and alcohol rehab in Rochdale or anywhere else, all you need to do is call us on 0800 326 5559. As we said previously, even if you’re not looking for specific advice, we’ll be on hand to listen to any issues you have.
